Pike Yoga

ATTITUDE • MATITUDE • GRATITUDE

At Pike Yoga, we believe that EVERYONE needs yoga. Yoga is the one practice that complements all other exercise programs. Whether practiced daily or once a week, yoga will produce considerable benefits.

Our philosophy, "Attitude. Matitude. Gratitude." comes from our practice of yoga.

Most of us come to class with some form of an attitude, and not necessarily in the negative sense. Our attitudes can arise from frustration, guilt, anger, fatigue, loneliness, excitement, urgency, contentment, or any number of other feelings. So then, we come to the mat and practice; we begin to work through these outside distractions.

Yes, it's a made up word. Matitude is simply being present--there on the mat--with the breath, the mind, and the body. Matitude is dynamic--always changing, always evolving. It is the practice of being who it is that you are supposed to be.

The final component is gratitude. This is where the intention of your practice is absorbed. It is finding light in darkness, quietness in chaos--simply being thankful.

PIKE YOGA CLASSES

ASHTANGA FIRST SERIES / 75 MIN.

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a system of yoga transmitted to the modern world by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (1915-2009). This method of yoga involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures—a process producing intense internal heat and a profuse, purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind.

ASHTANGA SHORT FORM

Ashtanga short form was developed by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and is a specific series of Sun Salutations, standing and seated postures that are linked together through breath and movement.  The benefits of this style of yoga are increased strength, flexibility, and inner peace. This is a wonderful class to familiarize you with several of the postures that you will find in other yoga classes.  All levels are welcome.

ALIGNMENT BASED YOGA

Alignment Based yoga emphasizes the importance of the body positioning in order to provide a safe, balanced, and mindful practice. As students gently bring their attention to their alignment, breath, and inner sensations, their mind also relaxes, and their spirit is renewed.  This class is good for beginners, more advanced students, or students with injuries or other limitations.

VINYASA

Vinyasa (pronounced "vin-yah-sah") is the Sanskrit word for "flow," and these classes are known for their fluid, movement-intensive practices. Vinyasa teachers choreograph their classes to smoothly transition from pose to pose, and often play music to keep things lively. The intensity of the practice is similar to Ashtanga, but no two vinyasa classes are the same.

ALL LEVEL VINYASA

All level vinyasa is a centering and warming to begin then moving towards an energetic practice with many modifications so all can participate.

STRONG FLOW

Strong Flow is a vinyasa style class that attracts the intermediate to advanced student.  This class often offers additional ab work.

GENTLE FLOW

Gentle Flow is a slower paced practice that is open to all ages, all sizes, and all fitness levels.

YIN YOGA

This class will target the connective tissues such as ligaments and fascia. Most poses are done while seated or lying down and are held 3-5 minutes. This class is the perfect addition for your off training days to bring your body into balance and increase range of motion. All levels welcome.

VINYASA WITH YIN

This class is a wonderful fusion of yang and yin styles of yoga.  We begin with yang through a diverse and energetic vinyasa flow emphasizing the connection of breath with movement for greater bliss and harmony.  We then focus on yin with long held, mainly seated postures, which target healing through gentle stretching for the connective tissues around the hips, the pelvis, and the lower back.  All levels are welcome.

KUNDALINI

Kundalini is a system of exercises which open physical, emotional, mental, and energetic blockages. This leads to better health, better performance and feelings of joy. It uses many of the same postures as Hatha, Vinyasa and well known yoga systems, but it puts far more emphasis on breath and movement. Kundalini yoga can be done alone but also will help those doing other types of yoga accelerate their practice.
