Pike Yoga

ATTITUDE • MATITUDE • GRATITUDE

At Pike Yoga, we believe that EVERYONE needs yoga. Yoga is the one practice that complements all other exercise programs. Whether practiced daily or once a week, yoga will produce considerable benefits.

Our philosophy, "Attitude. Matitude. Gratitude." comes from our practice of yoga.

Most of us come to class with some form of an attitude, and not necessarily in the negative sense. Our attitudes can arise from frustration, guilt, anger, fatigue, loneliness, excitement, urgency, contentment, or any number of other feelings. So then, we come to the mat and practice; we begin to work through these outside distractions.

Yes, it's a made up word. Matitude is simply being present--there on the mat--with the breath, the mind, and the body. Matitude is dynamic--always changing, always evolving. It is the practice of being who it is that you are supposed to be.

The final component is gratitude. This is where the intention of your practice is absorbed. It is finding light in darkness, quietness in chaos--simply being thankful.

Wendy Holmes, founder & owner

First and foremost, I am a student.  I still have much to learn in the art of practicing yoga.

I began my career in fitness with Baptist Memorial Healthcare Corporation in their employee-based wellness center, HealthPlexI worked at Baptist for 10 years and still act as a consultant for them on health and fitness topics. I consult and appear on the Baptist sponsored show, Smart Medicine's Look Good and Feel Great segment on WKNO. Check us out on smartmedicine.tv!

My experience also includes work at Hope and Healing, the wellness center for the Church Health Center. After leaving Hope and Healing I had an in-home personal training studio known as workoutwithwendy

How did I find my way to Pike Yoga? Throughout my career in health and fitness, I have witnessed the unique connection between mind, body, and spirit. During September (Yoga Month!) of 2011, I attended several free Yoga classes around Memphis. I discovered that not only did I really like yoga, but I also needed it! I went on to receive certification with Sarla Nichols at Midtown Yoga and began teaching an all-level athletic vinyasa class several times a week. I soon realized there was a need to offer students more variety, as well as additional class times. Pike Yoga’s studio’s goal is to provide the community of Germantown a place to practice yoga under the guidance of certified instructors with a wide range of both expertise and education.

Kelley Seitz

Having benefited from the wonderful healing benefits of yoga while practicing yoga for the past 25 years and wanting to share them with others, Kelley was inspired to become a yoga instructor 5 years ago.  She is passionate about helping students discover how yoga can bring more happiness, inner peace and balance into their lives while releasing self-judgment and allowing space for becoming their authentic self.

Beth Ross

Beth attended her first class after a difficult time in her life looking for peace, retrospection, and healing and found so much more.  After her first class she was sore, tired, centered, and more at peace--she was forever hooked.

No where else in her life does she find so much in just a short period of time.

She teaches to help people in their own journeys through their lives, finding that she benefits the most. And maybe that's the way it is supposed to be.

Alma Corla

Alma is a certified yoga instructor and a Reiki Master teaching yoga since 2003. Her passion of yoga led her to resign her full time job at FedEx almost 6 years ago to help people find balance and peace in their busy lives through yoga, meditation, and Reiki.  Having herself gone through the process, Alma believes that yoga is a form of inner exploration that allows us to find who we truly are, bringing healing to body, mind, and spirit.  Alma is now in training to become a certified Spiritual Director.

Lisa Warmuth

Lisa began her personal practice in 2005 as a complement to her marathon training. Realizing the need to bring more athletes to the mat, she received her RYT 200 hour certification through the Kest Center for Yoga soon after. Lisa's classes combine her vast knowledge of the anatomy with innovative flows and fun playlists.

Trish Lange

Trish Towne Lange has been practicing yoga on and off for twenty years—some years more than others! After moving to East Memphis 12 years ago, she got to know the area by attending different types of yoga classes (including two rounds of prenatal) at various gyms until she finally discovered Ashtanga, the practice she’d been looking for all along. Trish has been teaching for a year and a half and finds inspiration in her students’ progress and growth.

Kim Anderson

Kim has practiced Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga for six years and has been teaching for 4 years.  She is E-RYT 200 certified and focuses on the teachings of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois as taught by his eldest son, Manju Pattabhi Jois. Kim has completed three teacher training programs with Manju Jois and will attend her fourth this June. One of Kim’s greatest joys is to watch a student feel the benefits of the system. It’s life changing to them and I’m thrilled to be the “messenger.”
